Does Coolsculpting work?
CoolSculpting is an FDA-cleared form of cosmetic reduction of the excess fat. The process is clinically called cryolipolysis. This procedure uses freezing temperatures to break down fat cells and freeze the fat off. Studies have shown that cold causes damage only to the fat cells at first. Therefore there is absolutely no damage to the underlying tissue or the skin.
During this procedure, the provider vacuums the skin above the area of fatty tissue into an applicator that cools the fat cells. The cold temperatures numb the area, and you may feel a mild cooling sensation.
Most CoolSculpting procedures are completed within an hour. Since there is no damage to the skin or the underlying tissue, the patients do not require any recovery time. After the completion of the procedure, it takes around four to six months for the fat cells to get expelled from the body. During this period, you will lose fat significantly (patients on average lose about 20 percent of the fat.)
Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Gary Motykie provides CoolSculpting to patients in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles CA, and surrounding communities.
Is CoolSculpting Effective?
Cryolipolysis has a very high rate of success. It is highly effective for eliminating areas of fat from the body, and has much lesser side effects in comparison to other procedures, such as liposuction. Although Coolsculpting can eliminate areas of fat, it is important to understand that it is not a miracle cure, and you will not lose a very large amount of fat.
This fat reduction procedure might not be suitable for everybody, and some people may have more side effects than others. Lifestyle and several other factors also play a vital role.
Furthermore, you cannot expect much fat loss while undergoing Coolsculpting if you continue to eat an unhealthy diet and have a sedentary lifestyle. This procedure cannot tighten your loose skin. If the skin has stretched around fatty buildups, you may have excess skin left after the fat is eliminated.
What does the Research say?
Researchers consider CoolSculpting to be a relatively effective and safe treatment for eliminating some areas of fat.
A review published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 2015 examined 19 previous studies of cryolipolysis. This study revealed that when fat reduction was measured with a caliper, a tool similar to a ruler, people lost an average of 14.67 to 28.5 percent of the fat in areas treated by Coolsculpting. When the studies measured the fat reduction with ultrasound, people experienced a weight loss of approximately 10.3 percent to 25.5 percent.
The researchers did not find any kind of major health risk factors related to this procedure. There was no reduction in the function of the liver or lipid levels. This implies that cryolipolysis is only a cosmetic procedure. Besides, freezing away fat without making any changes to the lifestyle may not improve the overall health of any person.
Another 2015 review reported in the journal of Aesthetic Surgery looked at 16 studies and found that people had an average fat reduction of 19.55 percent. Massaging the area straightaway after treatment may increase fat reduction, though more research is required to support this belief. A study conducted in 2014 found an increase in fat reduction following massage 2 months after treatment.
How long do the Results of CoolSculpting last?
This procedure destroys your fat cells, and those particular cells will not return. However, killing the existing fat cells will not stop the new fat cells from appearing. Therefore, it is critical to maintain a healthy lifestyle to preserve the results of the CoolSculpting procedure.
A person who eats an unhealthy diet and does not practice any form of exercise might soon see the growth of remaining fat cells in the body. Cosmetic surgeon Dr. Gary Motykie receives patients from Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles CA, and nearby areas for CoolSculpting.
