CoolSculpting FAQs
Please explain CoolSculpting briefly.
CoolSculpting is a path-breaking cosmetic procedure to reduce unwanted fats and provide improved body contours. It is not a weight loss technique, and focuses on specific areas of the body that contain stubborn fat deposits which will not go away with diet or exercise. The patient will experience intense cold and pressure on the affected area for a few minutes, but that is all. Throughout the procedure, the patient may enjoy watching television, reading, or just catch up on some sleep (if you want to or can sleep in front of other people).
Will I lose weight after CoolSculpting?
No, CoolSculpting is not about weight loss. It is a fat reduction procedure that targets unwanted fat tissue in specific areas of the body. Following the procedure, the patient gradually gains a slimmer and shapely body. It is more appropriate treatment for people whose weight is close to the ideal body weight.
How long does a single treatment last?
A single treatment of CoolSculpting may last from one to three hours, depending on the extent of treatment required. The treatment plan will be prepared by our medical provider in consultation with the patient, and the duration and date of each treatment session can be decided at that stage.
Is CoolSculpting cleared by the FDA?
The FDA has cleared CoolSculpting as a treatment to reduce fats in the tummy region as well as the love handles or flanks.
Will I have to take days off from work?
CoolSculpting does not require you to take time from work for recovery. In most cases, there is absolutely no downtime involved. Some patients simply get the treatment done during their lunch break at work, and go back to office after the treatment.
What kind of side effects should I expect?
Long-term or serious side effects of CoolSculpting have not been reported. In fact, most patients choose this procedure because of its minimal chances of side effects. A few patients may experience temporary side effects such as bruising, swelling, redness, pain, and numbness. These effects usually disappear quickly and do not require any special treatment.
What about follow-up treatments with CoolSculpting?
A single treatment of CoolSculpting can usually reduce fat to the extent of about 20 percent in the targeted areas. Multiple treatments may be planned at the time when the doctor discusses various aspects of the procedure with the patient. More effective results may be achieved with multiple treatments where the patient needs more extensive fat reduction.
How is CoolSculpting performed?
The doctor will place a suction device on the affected area, which will draw up the targeted fat pocket between two cooling panels. The unwanted fat cells will receive intense cooling through the panels, and will eventually freeze to death. The dead cells will be eliminated from the body naturally over a period of few weeks to few months.
When can I see the results?
The results are dramatic. On average, each CoolSculpting Procedure results in a 20% reduction of fat in the treated areas, and patients can start to see results as soon as three weeks following treatment, with the most dramatic results occurring over a period of two to four months in most patients.
Are the results permanent?
During CoolSculpting, the treated fat cells are eliminated. As long as you maintain a healthy lifestyle, long-term results should remain stable.
