Dr. Gary Motykie, a board certified Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon, talked on this subject on the Marie Show!

Each individual is born with a skin type that is marked by unique genetic characteristics. In most cases, the skin is naturally healthy and youthful. However, the way an individual looks after his or her skin can make a key difference to the skin’s current condition. Skin cleansing is one of the most primary aspects of good health and well-being because skin is the largest and the most exposed part of the body.

It is important to cleanse the skin thoroughly every day. Skin care products are more effective when the skin is exfoliated for better absorption. Exfoliation may be achieved mechanically by massaging the skin gently and also naturally through enzymes that eat away the old skin cells in the outer skin layer.

A large variety of skin care products is available in the market. Some of these products can cost several hundred dollars, while some others may even cost thousands of dollars. If an individual is aware of the right ingredients that the skin needs, it is possible to achieve the same results by choosing less expensive products which contain the required ingredients.

Important Skin Care Ingredients

When buying a suitable skin care product, people should look for the following ingredients:

DMAE

Many skin care products contain this ingredient because it is known to have a significant effect on the signs of aging. DMAE provides protection against skill cell damage that may occur due to sun exposure and environmental hazards. This ingredient stimulates the production of collagen in the skin, and has a tendency to make the skin firmer on contact. The Best of Perricone, costing around $95 is one of the products with DMAE.

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid is recognized as a vital promoter of natural collagen, antioxidant, and a moisturizer. This ingredient is also a key part of cosmetic fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm. Several anti-wrinkle lotions and creams also contain hyaluronic acid. Products such as Peter Thomas Roth Viz-1000 at $65 and Fresh Rose Hyrdrating Gel Cream at $42 contain this ingredient.

Argireline

This ingredient can be compared with Botox to a lesser extent. Argireline is not an injectable treatment like Botox, but it is a cream to be applied over wrinkled skin. This ingredient works by blocking neurotransmitters, just like Botox, and allows the overactive facial muscles to relax. This results in fading away of wrinkles and fine lines. Products such as First Aid Beauty (FAB) Dual Repair Face Cream at $44 and First Aid Beauty Dual Repair Eye Cream at $40 contain Argireline.

Matrixyl

Matrixyl supports growth of proteins such as collagen and elastin, which are responsible for skin tightness and elasticity. When collagen and elastin break down with age or other factors, wrinkles and loose skin occur. Boscia Bright White Mask at $38 and Hourglass Fluid Makeup at $60 are two products containing this ingredient.

Tried and True Retinols

These skin rejuvenation ingredients can be found in products such as Kate Somerville Hydrating Face Serum, Philosophy “Help Me,” Dr. Brandt R3P Cream and Laura Mercier Repair Eye Serum.

A Vampire Facelift Defined

This cosmetic procedure offers a unique combination of restoration of skin elasticity as well as improvement in skin tone and texture. As a part of this procedure, the doctor will first draw a small quantity of blood from the patient and isolate platelets by using a centrifugal force mechanism. This activates the platelets to release growth factors that can heal damaged tissue.

These growth factors are then injected into the affected areas of the face. This causes the multi-potent stem cells to become activated to produce new tissue growth. The outcome of this process is the appearance of rejuvenated and younger looking skin. The effects of this treatment may last for anywhere between nine months and two years.
