CoolSculpting vs. Kybella Injections for Chin Fat Reduction

CoolSculpting vs. Kybella Injections for Chin Fat Reduction

Excess fat tissue in the submental area below the chin can give the unsightly appearance of a double chin. Liposuction is a common surgical technique to treat this condition, but now patients have two diverse treatment options, which are completely non-surgical. CoolSculpting and Kybella injectable treatment have been cleared by the FDA this year for chin fat reduction.

CoolMini by CoolSculpting is a unique device that is designed to freeze the fat in the submental area to reduce chin fat without surgery. Kybella or ATX-101, introduced by Kythera, involves multiple injections administered in the affected area to treat double chin. Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Gary Motykie provides both CoolMini and Kybella procedures to patients in Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles CA, and surrounding communities.

Kybella Injections

In the early part of 2015, the FDA gave its approval to Kybella as the first and only non-surgical procedure specifically aimed at reducing submental fat to mitigate the appearance of a double chin. Kybella medication works quickly in the deeper layers of the skin to disintegrate stubborn fat cells and to help a patient lose fat in a non-surgical way. The procedure can be customized according to the unique aesthetic goals of a patient who wants an enhanced chin profile.

Kybella injectable treatment typically helps patients achieve higher levels of satisfaction because it produces significant aesthetic improvement in the neck and chin appearance without involving any cuts or incisions. Dr. Motykie receives patients from Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Los Angeles CA, and nearby areas for Kybella injectable treatment.

Kybella Injection Plan

Kybella injections are based on deoxycholic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance in the body to support fat absorption. When this substance is injected into the targeted submental fat area below the chin, it triggers the destruction of stubborn fat cells. The body gradually re-absorbs these cells, and the submental contours improve.

Each treatment session of Kybella will usually involve administering of several injections of Kybella. Up to six treatment sessions of Kybella may be recommended as per the needs of a patient. Each session will last for about 15 minutes, and there may be a gap of 30 days between two sessions.

CoolMini Treatment

CoolMini from Zeltiq operates on the same cooling principle as CoolSculpting. CoolMini has been designed specifically to treat smaller areas such as submental fat area more effectively. Its unique cooling process will freeze the fat cells, without causing any harm to the surrounding healthy tissue. The frozen cells will gradually disintegrate and leave the body naturally.

With the CoolMini applicator, it is possible to clear targeted amounts of submental fat faster and more efficiently. In just one to two treatment sessions of one hour each, the patient may be able to achieve about 20 percent submental fat reduction. The key difference from Kybella treatment is that CoolMini does not involve any needles or administering of any kind of medication. It simply freezes and eliminates the unwanted fat cells in a painless and completely non-invasive manner.
